Anyone who has experienced an Autechre live show never forgets it: total darkness, the body pierced by sounds quite literally never heard before, every spatial and material point of reference disintegrating as new mental geographies take shape. From their first experiments with machines in 1987 to the procedural algorithms they now mould while retaining a degree of total control unlike anyone else, this is still the sound of the subconscious: like taking part in a collective psychoanalytic session, staring wide-eyed into the abyss to probe its depths. An extrasensory experience that seems to contain virtually every spectrum of existence.
